Tinubu boasts at G20 Summit how he tackles Nigeria’s poverty crisis. He saw occasion as an opportunity to “leverage best practices, innovative solutions, and financial support.”
President Bola Tinubu proudly told world leaders at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro that his administration is actively tackling poverty in Nigeria. He highlighted how his government is focused on addressing hunger and poverty, drawing parallels between Nigeria’s efforts and Brazil’s approach.
Speaking at the summit, Tinubu emphasized his government’s commitment to tackling Nigeria’s poverty crisis. He noted that Brazil’s priorities, particularly in the fight against hunger and poverty, align closely with Nigeria’s economic policies. “Brazil’s focus on fighting hunger and poverty resonates with Nigeria’s own policies,” Tinubu stated.
He referenced Nigeria’s 8-Point Agenda, which he unveiled in 2023, as a key framework for addressing these critical issues. Priority 3 of the agenda focuses on boosting agriculture to achieve food security. This includes developing commodity value chains and providing infrastructure support. “We aim to tackle hunger by strengthening agriculture,” Tinubu explained.
Priority 6 of the agenda focuses on education, healthcare, and social investment, which Tinubu described as essential pillars for Nigeria’s long-term development. He also highlighted how these priorities align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1 (ending poverty) and SDG 2 (zero hunger).
Nigeria’s role in the Global Alliance Against Hunger
Tinubu also praised Brazil’s leadership in launching the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. He described it as “a bold and visionary step,” according to Sahara Reporters.
He expressed Nigeria’s strong support for the initiative, stating that it offers a comprehensive approach to not only addressing immediate needs but also tackling the root causes of hunger and poverty.
“Nigeria’s participation in the Global Alliance is a significant step forward in our fight against poverty,” he said. The president reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working with international organizations, G20 member countries, and civil society to combat hunger and poverty effectively.
Tinubu described Nigeria’s involvement in the Global Alliance as aligned with his administration’s focus on creating sustainable, long-term solutions. By partnering with international organizations, he said Nigeria would be able to “leverage best practices, innovative solutions, and financial support” to address these challenges.
Tinubu boasts at G20 Summit, expresses gratitude to Brazil
At the summit, Tinubu also thanked Brazil for inviting Nigeria to participate as a guest country. He expressed appreciation for the historic nature of the summit. He said it was an important opportunity to engage with world leaders on shared challenges.
“We are grateful to Brazil for inviting Nigeria to the G20 as a guest country. This summit has been a great opportunity to highlight Nigeria’s efforts in tackling poverty and hunger,” Tinubu said.
He concluded his speech by reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to working with the G20, other international organizations, and civil society groups. “Nigeria remains committed to fighting hunger and poverty in collaboration with global partners,” he added.
Tinubu’s remarks at the G20 summit were a proud assertion of Nigeria’s progress in addressing hunger and poverty. While challenges remain, his government is focused on taking concrete steps to create a more sustainable future for Nigerians.
