Pastor Tobi Adegboyega has told his supporters not to panic about his expected deportation from the UK. In a viral video, on his X page on Wednesday, the embattled pastor boasted that nobody can do him anything.
The Nigerian-born UK pastor, is facing deportation from the UK following a tribunal ruling related to allegations of financial misconduct linked to his church. However, Adegboyega has made a bold statement asserting that he will not be deported.
He said he was still in the UK, “a city that is well known for pulling people down” and that he has survived all sorts. “Nothing has changed and nothing will change,” he said. Then, to his supporters, he said: “No panic. I love London, It’s my city and nobody can do anything.”
Adegboyega’s bold declaration has causes reactions among his supporters, critics, and diplomatic circles as the legal and political drama unfolds. Many say his comment suggested his belief that the deportation from UK will not happen.
Deportation from UK likely, after tribunal ruling
In October 2024, an immigration tribunal ruled that Adegboyega be deported to Nigeria. This was due to his alleged involvement in a £1.87 million fraud case connected to his now-closed Salvation Proclaimers Anointed Church. Despite his efforts to block the deportation, the court’s decision has now set the stage for his possible removal from the UK.
Adegboyega, who is also a cousin of Star Wars actor John Boyega, has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. He claims that the deportation is a violation of his human rights and that it is politically motivated.
However, in a tweet that has garnered widespread attention, Adegboyega confidently declared, “Nobody can do anything,” suggesting that he believes the deportation from the UK will not happen, and he will not be sent back to Nigeria.
Pastor’s defiant video: “Nobody can do anything”
Adegboyega’s video has led many to speculate that he is confident in his ability to stay in the UK, despite the legal challenges.
Supporters on social media quickly expressed their confidence in Adegboyega’s statement. One user commented: “Pastor Tobi has always overcome every obstacle. Deportation from the UK will not stop him.” Another follower posted, “He’s a fighter, and no one can take him from the UK. The battle isn’t over.”
However, critics argue that the authorities would uphold the deportation ruling. Legal experts point out that Adegboyega lost his appeal against the deportation order, and as such, the law should take its course.
One critic tweeted, “The law is clear. Deportation from the UK is the consequence of his actions. No amount of social media defiance will change that.” Others emphasized that regardless of his personal influence or public support, no one is above the law, especially in matters as serious as fraud.
Nigeria monitoring the situation
The controversy surrounding Adegboyega’s deportation from the UK has caught the attention of diplomatic circles. While Nigeria has not made an official statement, sources suggest that the government is carefully monitoring the situation. Some experts speculate that the case could affect diplomatic relations between the UK and Nigeria. That is, if not properly handled or further appeals delay the process.
A source at the Nigerian High Commission in the UK expressed concern over the situation but stopped short of making any public statements. Some observers are wondering if the Nigerian government will intervene, given the public nature of the case and the international attention it has drawn.
It remains unclear whether Adegboyega’s latest appeal will succeed or if the UK authorities will proceed with his removal.
