The Super Eagles celebrate passionately after scoring a goal during one of the AFCON qualifiers. The vibrant green and white of their jerseys contrasts with the cheering crowd in the background, emphasizing the energy of the moment as they strive for victory in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Victor Boniface, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon lead the Super Eagles’ attack as they face Libya in the AFCON qualifiers today. This match holds significant importance as the team aims to secure a strong position in the Africa Cup of Nations 2024.

Before the match, Coach Austin Eguavoen assured fans of crucial adjustments to the squad to cover for the absence of injured star Victor Osimhen. Lookman and Boniface both started in the Eagles’ previous two games against Benin Republic in Uyo and Rwanda in Kigali. Meanwhile, Simon, who came off the bench in those matches, replaces Samuel Chukwueze in the starting lineup.

Stanley Nwabali retains his position in goal, while Ola Aina, William Troost-Ekong, Bruno Onyemaechi, and Calvin Bassey form the defensive line. In midfield, Eguavoen has lined up Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, and Alex Iwobi to anchor the midfield for the three-time African champions.

Osimhen as talking point

Osimhen’s absence has been a major talking point before this important match. He suffered an injury during a match between Galatasaray and Kasimpasa, sidelining him for this doubleheader. Nigeria will play Libya today and Oct 15, 2024.

In an interview, Eguavoen  said that the remaining players are ready to step up. He kept some of his strategies under wraps. However, sources indicate that securing early goals will be a part of his game plan. “The boys are ready to fight for those three points. Every second counts, and we understand the importance of getting the job done early,” he stated.

While acknowledging Osimhen’s impact, Eguavoen reassured fans that others can rise to the occasion. “He may not be here physically, but I am sure he’s with us in spirit,” he added.

Eguavoen’s strategy for AFCON qualifiers

Osimhen has contributed to five goals in four matches for Galatasaray and scored in Nigeria’s last qualification win. Eguavoen also reached out to Samuel Chukwueze, stressing the need to choose the right moments to dribble and support teammates.

Despite Nigeria being the favorites, Eguavoen acknowledges that Libya will be tough opponents. Nevertheless, he remains confident that the Super Eagles will secure victories in these crucial AFCON qualifiers. With the team’s determination and strategy, fans hope for a successful performance in today’s match
