Dangote Refinery will now supply petroleum products directly to Nigeria’s major marketers. Hopefully, this might bring down the cost of petrol and other products.
Starting soon, IPMAN members will be able to directly lift petrol, diesel, and kerosene from the refinery. IPMAN’s National President, Abubakar Maigandi Shettima, announced the deal in Abuja on Monday.
Shettima said the new agreement would ensure a steady supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) to IPMAN depots and retail outlets across Nigeria. He called on marketers to support Dangote Refinery, saying it would benefit the Nigerian economy.
“The Dangote Refinery has agreed to allow IPMAN to directly lift Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) for onward supply to IPMAN depots and retail outlets.
This new arrangement with Dangote Refinery will ensure a steady and uninterrupted supply of PMS products across Nigeria, at affordable rates for Nigerians. All IPMAN members should fully support the Dangote Refinery, as this is the right course of action, given the substantial benefits of backward integration and its long-term positive impact on Nigeria’s foreign exchange markets,” Shettima said.
The agreement also aligns with the Federal Government’s goal to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported fuel.
Dangote Refinery boosting Nigeria’s economy
Shettima highlighted that the agreement would have long-term benefits for Nigeria. By relying on local refineries, Nigeria can save foreign exchange spent on imported fuel. This will also create more jobs and strengthen the local economy.
He urged all marketers to support Nigerian refineries. “Supporting Dangote Refinery is part of our commitment to President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda,” Shettima explained. He said this effort would create jobs and strengthen Nigeria’s energy sector.
Shettima also discussed the Federal Government’s push for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an alternative fuel. He called on IPMAN members to begin preparing for CNG refill stations at their outlets.
“We believe CNG can help improve Nigeria’s economy and provide cleaner energy for Nigerians,” Shettima said. He emphasized the importance of a partnership with the government and other stakeholders to make CNG widely available.
