Israeli Airstrikes: A Surge in Military Action

Lebanon’s state media, NNA, reported 111 Israeli airstrikes in just one hour on Saturday. These strikes occurred from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. local time, Medialord learnt.

Targets included Nabatieh, Iqlim al-Tuffah, and Western Bekaa. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed they hit around 180 targets across southern Lebanon. This included thousands of rocket launcher barrels ready for use against Israel.

Reports from Lebanon indicated that the airstrikes caused extensive forest fires in southern and eastern regions. In response, Hezbollah launched about 90 projectiles into Israel. Some of these targeted military sites, including the Beit Hillel barracks.

Risk of Escalation Between Israel and Hezbollah

U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan discussed the situation. He stated that the “risk of escalation is real” between Israel and Hezbollah. He noted that current tensions are particularly acute. Sullivan suggested that Hezbollah’s capabilities may have suffered, but more assessment is needed.

He described the recent Israeli strike in southern Beirut as significant, according to CNN.

This strike resulted in at least 37 deaths, including key Hezbollah commanders. Sullivan cautioned against labeling it immediately as an escalation. He expressed hope to avoid a wider conflict.

This latest increase in violence follows Hezbollah’s rocket attacks into northern Israel. These actions support Hamas amid ongoing tensions in Gaza. The situation remains volatile, with both sides poised for further military action.
