Israel expands attacks on Hezbollah  as its aerial bombardment intensifies. As at Sunday morning, targets included areas in southern Lebanon and beyond. On Saturday, Israeli warplanes hit a marketplace in Nabatiyeh. The following day, a 100-year-old mosque was struck near the border.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA)  also reports deadly strikes in other regions. For instance, a Shiite Muslim village in a mostly Christian mountain area suffered a blow. Additionally, another strike occurred in north Lebanon, according to the health ministry.

Similarly, AFP footage showe the aftermath in Deir Billa. Rescuers and villagers dug through rubble, smoke billowing from the site. The mayor of Kfar Tibnit expressed sorrow over the mosque’s destruction. Fuad Yassin called it a beloved gathering place for families. The health ministry reported 15 casualties from strikes on three villages. Israel accused militants of using civilian infrastructure for operations, a claim denied by these groups.

Ground operations as Israel expands attacks on Hezbollah

The Israeli military claimed to continue targeted operations in southern Lebanon amid the ongoing situation as Israel expands attacks on Hezbollah. They asserted that their 36th division conducted “targeted and limited operational activity.” Israeli jets reportedly hit Hezbollah launchers, weapons storage facilities, and other military targets. The military stated they had “eliminated dozens of terrorists” during these operations.

Reports from NNA noted an escalation in attacks. Successive air strikes occurred from midnight until morning across several border villages. In response, Iran-backed Hezbollah claimed they clashed with Israeli troops attempting to infiltrate a border village. This led to an hour-long battle. Subsequently, Hezbollah shelled Israeli soldiers in Maroun al-Ras.

Early Sunday, Israel intercepted five projectiles fired from Lebanon. Air raid sirens sounded as tensions escalated. The military reported that Hezbollah launched around 320 projectiles into Israel during the Yom Kippur weekend. They also indicated that approximately 280 “terror targets” were attacked in Lebanon and Gaza.

Evacuations and warnings

Israel issued evacuation warnings for several villages in southern Lebanon. They advised residents not to return home amid the ongoing situation as Israel expands attacks on Hezbollah. This conflict has led to significant destruction and loss of life. The situation remains tense as both sides continue their military actions.

Civilians are caught in the crossfire, with places of worship and community centers being targeted. The destruction of the mosque in Kfar Tibnit highlights the impact on local communities. As the conflict escalates, the humanitarian situation in affected areas worsens.

Overall, the situation as Israel expands attacks on Hezbollah shows no signs of abating. Both sides are entrenched in their positions, leading to further violence and instability. International observers continue to call for restraint and a return to dialogue to prevent more casualties.
