Meta technical failure cripples major platforms like Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads, and Messenger, globally. The outage sparks frustration and anger among millions of users.
Meta is facing a widespread technical failure affecting Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads, and Messenger. Some users reported disruptions starting around 1 PM ET.
This issue has extended globally, impacting users in the US, UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America. Downdetector received over 130,000 complaints regarding Meta’s poor services.
The technical failure has sparked frustration among millions of users. Meta’s services, especially Facebook and Instagram, were hit hardest. Over 100,000 Facebook users reported issues, while Instagram had more than 62,000 complaints.
WhatsApp and Messenger also experienced disruptions, with login and message-sending problems. Threads, a newer platform, also faced a smaller number of complaints, totalling 871.
Meta Newsroom has posted a statement on X, acknowledging the ongoing technical issues. “We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps,” the company said.
“We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.” Despite this, users continued to express their anger, especially since this is not the first outage.
Frustration and anger over Meta technical failure
Frustrated users flocked to X (formerly Twitter) to express their anger over Meta’s repeated technical issues. One user sarcastically wrote: “Elon Musk to Mark Zuckerberg: ‘You’re sinking, my friend.'”
Others vented their frustrations with sharp comments. “Mark Zuckerberg needs to work on this because it’s becoming too frequent,” one user said. Many shared memes mocking Zuckerberg’s leadership during the outage.
Some users joked about Zuckerberg potentially switching to X due to the Meta technical failure. “I guess Zuckerberg is now downloading X to keep up with Elon,” one meme read. Others pointed out that the recurring outages were becoming a major concern.
Technical experts have tried to explain the cause of the Meta technical failure. Many suspect server overloads or technical glitches, which seem to happen frequently. Some noted that this is not the best of times for Zuckerberg as some nations have banned some social media platforms.
“It’s a sign of poor infrastructure management,” said one expert. “When outages occur this often, it raises doubts about Meta’s ability to maintain reliability.” Another expert noted that these disruptions could harm Meta’s reputation long-term.
Meta’s last major technical failure occurred in October, disrupting Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram for hours. Given the frequency of these issues, users are questioning Meta’s ability to maintain stable services. With so many platforms affected, the latest outage is just another in a growing list of complaints.
