PDP crisis is over, according to the reconciliation committee. But tension still builds as a court case subsists.
Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, chairman of the PDP’s National Reconciliation Committee, has announced that the crisis within the party is over. This statement comes after a crucial meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday.
“The outcome of today’s meeting is that, to the glory of God, we have been able to resolve the differences that have been causing our party some headache within the National Working Committee.” He emphasized the importance of unity for the progress of the PDP.
“We thank God that we have been able to open up to ourselves and resolve to move on as a United National Working Committee, which is what we needed for the progress of our party,” he continued. While he confirmed that the committee addressed significant issues, he did not specify the details of those matters.
Looking beyond PDP crisis
He was not clear on the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday. “That wasn’t part of our discussion, and I’m not in a position to talk about the NEC meeting,” he said. He said his role was solely on reconciliation within the NWC.
Attendees included Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, National Secretary Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, and National Treasurer Yayari Ahmed, among others. Their presence underscores the collective effort to stabilize the party.
Persistent uncertainty
Despite Oyinlola’s assertion that the PDP crisis is over, tensions remain. Recently, Damagum and Anyanwu suspended National Publicity Secretary Hon. Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade. In response, Ologunagba and Ajibade suspended Damagum and Anyanwu, creating a deadlock.
PDP Governors Forum Chairman Governor Bala Mohammed previously called for a cease-fire. However, uncertainty continues as some individuals, reportedly acting on Governor Mohammed’s behalf, recentlt filed a lawsuit. The suit is meant to compel the party to hold its NEC meeting as scheduled on October 24th. This five-count lawsuit was filed on Tuesday at a Zamfara Federal High Court. It named the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents.
