Medialord.ng learnt that Kilgour had been married to a Kenyan woman from the Luo community. Reports indicated their marital relationship had soured. For about a year, Kilgour and his wife had been living in separate bedrooms. Trust issues within the marriage led to their emotional distance. His wife, however, was not present when Kilgour passed away.
Neighbours and friends described Kilgour as a quiet man, often seen alone. His death shocked the community, and many wondered about the nature of his passing.
Initial response to the unusual incident
Upon finding Kilgour’s body, local police swiftly arrived at the scene. Forensic experts and officers processed the crime scene. Investigators reportedly secured the laptop and collected items of evidential value for analysis. The police noted that there were no immediate signs of foul play. However, the unusual nature of the scene left many questions unanswered.
Kilgour’s body was transported to Jocham Hospital morgue. An autopsy would determine the exact cause of his death. Investigations were ongoing as authorities sought to uncover more details.
Psychologists and experts in human behaviour have begun analyzing Kilgour’s tragic death. Some suggested that his death could have been the result of a heart attack triggered by excessive sexual activity. Others pointed to the possibility of a stroke, which can sometimes be induced by physical stress during masturbation.
Dr. Linda Mutuku, a psychologist based in Nairobi, noted that such deaths are rare but not impossible. She explained that stress, psychological isolation, and an unhealthy sexual lifestyle could have contributed to Kilgour’s sudden demise. “People engaging in extreme self-pleasure may not realize the physical risks they face,” she said.
Experts also highlighted the importance of understanding the psychological toll that loneliness and marital problems can have on individuals. Kilgour’s estranged relationship with his wife could have contributed to his mental state. This, in turn, may have exacerbated the impact of his physical actions.
Why masturbation?
A research article in Medical News Today says is common and has a number of benefits. “Masturbation is common among men and women of all ages and plays a role in healthy sexual development,” it says. About 74 percent of males and 48 percent of females masturbate in the United States, for instance, the report says. “Among older adults, roughly 63 percent of men and 32 percent of women between 57 and 64 years of age masturbate,” it added.
People masturbate for many reasons. Medical News Today says the reasons include pleasure, enjoyment, fun, and tension release. Some individuals masturbate alone, while others masturbate with a partner.
Not a first in the region
While this unusual incident was unique in its details, experts confirmed that such cases have occurred before, though not frequent. Reports from various parts of the world, including similar stories from Kenya, have hinted at the possibility of fatal consequences from excessive sexual activity. The last reported case in Kenya involved a man who reportedly died from a stroke while engaging in self-pleasure.
Makinze Motumba, a health consultant, stressed that such incidents, though rare, are a reminder of the potential risks involved in neglecting one’s physical and mental well-being.
In the wake of Kilgour’s death, many experts called for increased awareness of the dangers associated with excessive masturbation. Dr Mutuku urged people to balance their sexual habits with overall physical and mental health. Public health campaigns on sexual wellness could help reduce such incidents, she said.
Authorities recommended counselling and therapy for individuals facing relationship problems or sexual addiction. Dr Mutuku also spoke on the importance of emotional support systems for people dealing with isolation. Education about the dangers of extreme self-pleasure might help prevent similar incidents in the future.
