Hisbah declares commissioner wanted, taking the adultery allegation against the Jigawa state official to an intriguing dimension!
The Kano State Hisbah Board has declared Auwal Sankara, the Commissioner for Special Duties in Jigawa, wanted for an alleged adultery allegation. The Commander General Aminu Daurawa made this announcement during a news briefing in Kano on Monday.
Daurawa alleged that they caught the commissioner in an uncompleted building with a married woman. This situation came to light through intelligence tracking after complaints were made by the woman’s husband, Nasiru Bulama. Bulama accused the commissioner of engaging in an illicit affair with his wife, Tasleem Nabegu, the mother of his two children.
Attempted resolution as Hisbah declares commissioner wanted
Daurawa explained that the Hisbah Board sought to settle the matter out of court. They invited both families to a meeting, but only Bulama attended. The authorities claimed the commissioner refused to honour the invitation. They also said he later escaped after he got bail from Hisbah custody.
He confirmed that the matter is now in court. Daurawa urged the public to report any illicit activities they witness in their neighborhoods.
In response, Bulama appealed to the State Government and relevant stakeholders for assistance in seeking justice. He emphasized that an illicit affair constitutes a crime for any married person.
Sankara maintains innocence
Auwal Sankara has maintained his innocence regarding the adultery allegation. He denies the claims made against him and asserts that he did not engage in any illicit activity. The ongoing legal proceedings will address these accusations and determine the truth of the situation.
Hisbah and its mandate
The Hisbah Board is a religious and moral policing agency active in the northern states, including Kano and Jigawa. It promotes Islamic values and enforces Sharia law. Hisbah plays a significant role in addressing issues related to morality and public conduct. Its mandate includes regulating activities deemed immoral or unlawful, such as alcohol consumption, illicit relationships, and other behaviours contrary to Islamic teachings.
In this context, the recent declaration of Sankara as wanted for an alleged adultery has drawn considerable attention. This incident highlights the board’s active role in investigating and addressing accusations of moral misconduct.
The case has also sparked discussions about the enforcement of Sharia law and the implications for public officials. This case underscores the tension between personal conduct, legal systems, and societal expectations within the framework of Islamic law in Nigeria.
