How God stops naira from rapid decline became the focus of Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s sermon at a gathering on Friday. He attributed the current situation to a divine answer to his prayers.
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has attributed Nigeria’s current exchange rate stability to divine intervention. He warned that without God’s help, the naira could have fallen to ₦10,000 to $1.
Speaking at the Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja, Pastor Adeboye explained that his prayers, along with those of his followers, helped stop the naira’s rapid decline.
At the moment, the exchange rate stands at ₦1,730 to $1. Pastor Adeboye made it clear that if not for divine intervention, the naira’s value would have continued to fall.
How God stops naira from free fall
Pastor Adeboye recalled Nigeria’s financial struggles, especially the nation’s reliance on imported fuel despite its rich oil resources. He said subsequent governments spent billions of naira on refineries that never worked, forcing the country to import fuel.
The pastor noted that when President Bola Tinubu assumed office, he made the bold decision to end fuel subsidies and cancel the spending on fuel imports. This change gave Nigerians hope for better days ahead, but some people, benefiting from the old system, were unhappy.
Soon after, the naira began to slide sharply. Pastor Adeboye urged his followers to pray, and many joined in. He believes this collective prayer helped prevent the naira from crashing.
“If we had not prayed, $1 would have been ₦10,000 by now,” Pastor Adeboye said. “But God stepped in and saved Nigeria,” he added.
The pastor’s message was clear: Without divine intervention, Nigeria’s currency could have suffered even more. However, through prayer, God stopped the naira from sliding further.
