Yahaya Bello of Kogi has been under EFCC’s investigation for months but seems elusive. The prolonged drama involving the former Kogi governor has now led to VeryDarkMan calling the agency’s chairman a clown!
Social media activist, Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan(VDM), has launched a fierce criticism against the Chairman of EFCC, Ola Olukoyede.
VDM is known for his vocal stance against corruption in Nigeria. In a recent video, he attacked the agency for allegedly failing to secure the conviction of former governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, seven months into the case. EFCC has accused Bello of squandering over N110 billon when he was the governor.
VDM called the EFCC Chairman a “clown,” adding that he is a “symbol of mediocrity, symbol of incompetence.” He wondered why Olukoyede is still in office. The activist expressed anger at EFCC’s seeming ease in securing conviction for Nigerians involved in lesser financial crimes.
According to the activist, the EFCC chairman has failed to follow through on his earlier promises to ensure the conviction of Yahaya Bello. VDM reminded the public of the EFCC Chairman’s alleged bold claim earlier in the year. He claimed Olukoyede had threatened to resign if he couldn’t secure the conviction of the controversial former governor. However, seven months later, no substantial progress has been made in the case. That led VDM to accuse him of being ineffective and insincere in his efforts to fight corruption.
VDM’s remarks were part of his ongoing activism against corruption in Nigeria. He has been a vocal critic of government officials and agencies he believes are failing to hold powerful figures accountable for corrupt practices.
Yahaya Belloof Kogi and EFCC’s struggles against corruption
The EFCC, under its current leadership, has made some strides in combating corruption, but its efforts are often seen as inconsistent. The commission has been actively investigating several high-profile corruption cases. However, many critics, including VDM, argue that the EFCC has not done enough to bring corrupt politicians and public figures to justice.
Bello’s case is a prime example of the challenges the EFCC faces in prosecuting high-ranking officials. Despite repeated investigations and claims of corruption against Bello, no clear conviction has been made yet.
VDM’s activism focuses on pressuring agencies like the EFCC to live up to their promises. He has repeatedly called for stronger actions to be taken against corrupt leaders, regardless of their political affiliations. VDM believes that the fight against corruption will remain a charade unless the EFCC holds all leaders to the same standard.
VDM’s brush with the EFCC and other agencies
VDM has had several run-ins with the EFCC and other law enforcement agencies. As an outspoken critic of corruption, he often faces harassment and threats from individuals within the government. He also often encounters the law enforcement sector. His persistence, however, has made him a well-known figure in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.
Despite these challenges, VDM remains resolute in his mission to expose corruption wherever it exists. His most recent comments reflect his growing impatience with the system’s failure to act against the powerful.
VDM’s activism is not just about calling out individuals but also pushing for systemic change. He has advocated for stronger transparency measures and increased accountability from public officials.
